Story
Save a Syrian family, bring them to West Wales
We are setting up a scheme, approved by government which allows us to host families fleeing war-torn Syria
We have to have £9,000 per family in a charity account to show we can do the job well. This is a government requirement.
The need is desperate and this is not a sticking plaster solution. Every family will be integrated by a welcoming community team. They will have a self-contained home, be able to work from day one, get the same supports and benefits as a British family.
We have interpreters, English teachers, counsellors and friends waiting to help them.
They will have 5 years humanitarian leave to remain, then they can decide whether to apply to stay longer or become citizens or if safe go home to Syria.
The teams supporting them are working with their local authority. There is huge enthusiasm in the Welsh countryside.
Please put in what you can to reach our target of two + families per month. We are aiming for enough for three families in three rural towns - that is nine by new year.
Please help. If this goes well, it will be easier for others in future.
Please make a lasting difference and show the world the right way to respond to the nightmare - people helping people.
A gift for Christmas to save a family.
As soon as we have enough for two families, we can complete an application form, it takes about 12 weeks from completion to their arrival.
Hiraeth Hope in West Wales was set up in October 2015 to respond to the refugee crisis.
We are now doing the most important thing, trialling a new scheme, Community sponsored settlement. It is new to the UK.
There are teams preparing for families to come to West Wales. Please dig deep and give these families a chance to rebuild their lives
