This summer I will be volunteering with Think Pacific for a month to help provide academic and physical education to children in rural Fiji.

More than 250,000 people in the Fiji islands live in poverty and many more live on or just above the poverty line. Fijian communities in rural areas suffer the most extreme consequences of poverty: many schools are in poor condition and devoid of basic materials and there is not access to basic sanitation facilities. Sadly, poverty forces many children to drop out of education and many do not continue beyond primary school level. Consequently, children in rural communities are often forced into a future of limited education and opportunity - continuing the cycle of poverty.

Think Pacific are a small personal charity that started with the aim of using education to end this cycle of poverty and give the children a better start in life. This cause is extremely close to my heart as it is a firm belief of mine that your place of birth should not shut off the world to you; children should be provided with every opportunity in life to succeed. I am very of aware of the extraordinary life that I have been blessed with and so wish to give as much help to those that haven't been given the same chances as possible. If my academic & sporting abilities (even my questionable math skills) can be of any use to these children it would be my privilege to assist.

For the next few months I will be fundraising to help pay for supplies and sports equipment (shan't lie hoping badminton will catch on rather than football) for the Fijian children. I will be updating this page with any activities that I will be partaking in for the charity (hopefully there will be a sky dive on my horizon.)
