    Story

    Carters Battle

Carter is just 6 months old and lives in Norfolk with his Mum, Dad and Sister. When Carter’s mum Gema was pregnant with him, the doctors noticed he had cardiac problems. Since being born he has been diagnosed with an extremely rare condition called Rubinstein-Taybi Syndrome which leads to a lot of health complications. Due to this, Carter has now been diagnosed with a hole in his heart and childhood Interstitial lung disease causing Carter’s own body to attack his lungs. This can also lead to heart failure. Sadly this means Carter’s illness is now terminal and he will rely on oxygen 24/7 as well as a stats monitor.

The only place Carter can go is to the hospital or at home as he is at high risk of catching any sort of illness and his body will be unable to fight off any virus or infection. Because of this, Carter’s sister Cody is unable to start reception at school and will now be home schooled. Carter’s parents Gema and Scott are also now unable to work, not only due to the risk of infection but also as he requires 24 hour care.

Carter and his family live in Norfolk but are having to spend a lot of time travelling back and forth to Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.

For Carter to have a comfortable life at home he needs specialists seating and equipment which doesn’t come cheap (for example the bath seat alone is £500).

Carter has spent most of his life in different hospitals during this difficult time with the coronavirus. His parents are desperate to have him back home safe with his sister who adores and misses him terribly.

As Gema and Scott are no longer able to work, the cost of living along with the 3 hour Journeys to and from the hospital is becoming very difficult. This is making it almost impossible to buy all the health equipment Carter needs at home.

They will be forever grateful for some help and support at this terrible time.

Thank you for taking the time to read Carter’s sotry ❤️
