We are hoping to fund an experimental drug treatment called Radium 223 (Xofigo), for Caryl for her newly diagnosed metastatic bone cancer.

This drug has only recently been made available in South Africa for men whose prostate cancer has spread to the bone (as it is a drug that specifically targets bone cancer) - and covered only by private Medical Insurance companies after extensive consultant motivations have been provided. They will not currently cover this drug for any other primary cancer other than prostate cancer.

This treatment will therefore be self-funded in Caryl's case and her reaction to the drug monitored for responsiveness, in the hope to get the insurance company to fund it if it proves effective. Due to the rareness of her primary cancer, Adenocarcinoma of the bladder, we are hoping that this experimental drug will make a difference.
