    What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

    Story

This year I will be setting off on quite the challenge - volunteering in Fiji in schools helping the Fijian children learn basic skills they will need to guide them through life.

Think Pacific is a registered Fijian charity, working hand in hand with the Fijian Government. They work with local communities in the most remote villages - helping rebuild lives. As most of you will have heard, a cyclone hit Fiji in February 2016, killing many of the villagers, leaving children without food, homes, schools, and parents.

However as many people are unaware, 1/3 of children in Fiji live below the poverty line, living on one dollar a day. Over 75% of children don't have access to fresh water or proper sanitation. They have a lack of teaching resources, and teachers, so families struggle to meet their daily needs and children are missing out on vital education. Hearing about the conditions these children live in on a daily basis drives me to help - to give back.

Whilst volunteering in Fiji I will be working with children in the local schools, educating them on basic maths, literacy and science, before moving to arts and sports in the afternoon - as well as improving their social skills. Implementing extra curricular programmes within the school will help the children's cognitive development with the aim of a brighter future. Some of these children will have never played sport before, so we will be teaching them the fundamentals and getting them used to playing and co-operating as a team.

I am aiming to raise £1,100 which will all go straight to Think Pacific Foundation. The money will not only provide long term support for the children, but will be used to provide school resources, sports equipment, books, stationary, funding teacher training and building projects in areas most damaged by the devastating cyclone.

This experience will be difficult and challenging - but ultimately a rewarding one. Knowing I will be helping these children when they have virtually nothing gives me great pleasure and the money raised will help them in a time when they need it most.

Any contribution large or small will be greatly appreciated and will go a long, long way in Fiji. On behalf of myself and the Think Pacific team, Vinaka! ( Thank you ).
