I have a friend who has come to seek asylum with her family to live in Newport. Over the past few months she has done everything that she can to apply for a course at the local college and I'm very pleased to say that she has been accepted to enrol on a childcare course starting in September. She has overcome many obstacles to get there but it may be that the one thing that could hold her back might be her lack of transport. As a family of 3 children, she and her husband have very little to live on from week to week and the cost of the bus could stop her from doing the entire course. Until she gets her papers she cannot apply for the grant that would allow her a discounted student bus card. She is hardworking, dedicated, intelligent (she speaks 5 languages!), just wants to be in a position to work when her residency does come through and for that reason wants to complete the course while she is waiting. An annual Bamboo bus card for Newport Transport costs £330. If all my wonderful friends and family gave just a little towards it we could directly effect the future for one family. Please help me to help them.
