After originally being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007 at the age of 37, Sam received the news last year that it had returned in her liver. Secondary cancer is not curable, however it is treatable.

After months of having to self fund her treatment, Sam was given the positive news that her Pertuzmab treatment would at last be funded. Sam will need to have Pertuzmab treatment for the rest of her life or until it stops working. At which point she will need to move on to another combination drug, of which there are very few, as treatment for secondary cancer is not historically successful in the long term.

This is when the next drug Kadcyla would become critical for Sam and when more funding would be crucial as Kadcyla is not available on the NHS in Wales. Knowing the money is already in place to fund this treatment will allow Sam and her lovely family some room to breathe and allow Sam to continue loving and living life and inspiring us all with her grace, positivity and tenacity.
