The plan is to reduce the numbers of feral and abandonned cats in Southern Spain via a Trap, Neuter, Release (TNR) programme. These programmes run all over the globe as the best/most humane method of population control.

With over population comes disease, injury, lack of food and unfortunatley cruelty.
Over population does result in suffering.

Trap, neuter and release programmes involve the cats being trapped in humane traps to secure and transport them. The people who trap them are often the people that look out for them on a daily basis and feed them. These people love the cats and do their best to prevent the cats from harm.

The cats are transported to the neutering premises and anaesthetised for neutering if healthy enough. Once anaesthetised this is the ideal opportunity to deal with any other issues such as injuries, dental surgery and blood tests. Each cat will have a full health check.
All cats will have a dose of anti-parasite drugs, pain relief and antibiotic. One ear will be clipped to identify that cat has been neutered. This prevents that individual from being trapped again in a future T,N,R programme.
This part of the programme is where the money raised is spent. Costs involved are flights and accommodation for the veterinary team. All drugs and supplies of equipment and materials. These supplies are expensive. I estimate each trip to cost £1,500.

Once safe to do so, the cat is then released, (fed and watered) back into it's area it came from.

T,N,R cats live a healthier life. Tthe idea is to prevent each cat we treat from reproducing.

With less than a month to go for this years trip which starts on the 8th of September for 10 days. I will endeavour to update you on the programmes success.
