    Story

It's that time of year again, on Sunday 30th April 2017 Palestine Solidarity Campaign have arranged a sponsored 9-mile walk, along the banks of the Tyne from Newburn to Wylam (and back). This is organised annually by Newcastle Palestine Solidarity Campaign.

We will be raising funds for Jordan Valley Solidarity, a Palestinian group struggling under the impact of Israeli occupation. All funds will go directly to this group, working on the ground at community level in the occupied Jordan Valley.

The current situation in the Jordan Valley is a man-made situation perpetrated by the state of Israel and its military.

Although the West Bank is belongs to Palestine under international law, 87% of the land is designated as Area C, virtually all of which has barred Palestinians, earmarked instead for Israeli military and illegal Israeli settlements. Within area C is the Jordan Valley, an area which receives more tourists than Tel Aviv , and 95% of which is under illegal Israeli military control and surrounded by Israeli watch towers, Israeli settlements and military checkpoints. These illegal Israeli settlements are used as a tool to not only land grab, but also to disconnect Palestinian cities and villages. The JV is considered the bread basket of Palestine, yet, the indigenous Palestinians are restricted from using their own land.
The Jordan Valley Solidarity Campaign consists of a network of Palestinian grassroots community groups from all over the Jordan Valley in the illegally occupied West Bank. The campaign's aim is to protect the Palestinian existence in, and and the unique environment of, the Jordan Valley in the face of aggressive expansion of the illegal Israeli settlements in the Jordan Valley area. Please feel free to join us on the walk which is open to the public.
