    Story

My name is Chanelle and in October 2018 I will be travelling to Uganda to volunteer for 3 weeks at St Noa’s Primary School with VMM (Volunteer Mission Movement). During my time in Uganda I will be working as a teaching assistant helping children with English, Maths and Sports.

St Noa’s Primary School is one of the poorest schools in the Nansana District, which is just outside of Kampala. St Noa’s face an extreme lack of funding for the school, in addition to a lack of electricity, lack of resources (the curriculum books that are being used are several years out of date) and a lack of suitable facilities for the children to learn in, however despite this the staff and children work their hardest to build a better future for themselves. Even though the children do not have access to a proper playground, just the dirt you see outside the school, they love playing sport such as netball, dodgeball and football and the under 14’s volleyball team won the district league!

I am aiming to fundraise £2000 which is to cover the costs of the volunteer placement, flights and a donation to this amazing school. In 2017, the volunteers fundraising donations were used to install windows and doors to the school.

This is an incredible, once in a lifetime opportunity in which I hope to learn, experience, help and grow in. I believe that my contribution, along with the ladies that I am going with, will be invaluable to the community we will be working with. Any donations that people may be able to support me with will be greatly appreciated, no donation is too small.

VMM International is a charity development organisation which was established in 1969, who works with communities across Africa in the areas of education, healthcare and community development. You can read more about VMM on www.vmminternational.org.
