Story
If you want to brake the cycle of poverty you need to educate the people. CHL is a small Cambodian NGO run by Roeung Dara. He is passionate about giving the new generation in Cambodia an opportunity to change.
His school focuses on English and computer skills.
Computing is not a part of the state school curriculum so to learn even basic word processing or spreadsheets you have to pay to go to a private school after your main school.
Many in the rural communities either cannot afford to pay or the schools are too far to travel to.
Dara and his volunteer staff offer computer training for free along with English classes. Every day fifty children and young people from 6 to 25 arrive to learn
There is a problem - the laptops they use desperately need refurbishing and at the moment there is no internet.
We take this modern technology so lightly we forget the world it opens up to us. Dara said to me "how is it you can go into any restaurant or coffee bar in the city and get free wifi but not here at school".
So this is to try to raise £200 to have the internet installed. £250 for a years provision. £100 to get the laptops refurbished.
With English and computer skills comes the opportunity to get a better job with better pay and thus help not just themselves but also their whole family. You could make a real difference this Christmas

6 years agoWe often talk of sacrifice and giving to others. These two amazing people every day, six days a week give their time freely to help educate the children That to me is sacrificial giving to improve the lives of others. Today we reached half way in our appeal - we really believe we can get there by Christmas and give this school an amazing present. Pease if you are able, even a few pounds helps. Many thanks Simon
