Everyone thinks cancer will not effect your family, these days all we hear about is people fighting cancer but until it effects you personally you cant imagine the deviststion. My brother chris was diagonsed this year with stage 4 oesophagus cancer. The news was so shocking to him his wife and our family, Chris has never been ill a day in his life, he is 46 years old and lives in South Africa. Now try to imagine being with him while he has a liver biopsy and he is lying in the bed to be told your medical aid wont pay for your bed and yet you have to lie still for 6 hours after procedure. So you must pay. Imagine your pet scan and your CT scan cancelled as your medical aid wont pay, you must pay. Imagine being told the 2 different chemo's you have suffered though haven't worked. You are now taken off chemo's as your cancer has spread. There is further medical treatment but your medical aid wont pay. Even when your morphine pain patches you have to pay. The added stress this leaves Chris in is enormous. I know that this is happening to thousands of people but this is my brother Chris. We do not realise how blessed we are to have the NHS. So what can our family so to help we travel to be with him during the hardest of times to support him and will continue to do so. Today my husband Dyfrig and I are launching a 60 mile walk in one month as we are both working this is evenings and weekends. Please donate all monies raised are for Chris's medical shortfalls
