Story
As many of you know, our son Charlie had to be delivered 7 1/2 weeks early due to Em developing HELLP syndrone. On his arrival, he was admitted to Somerset Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton. There, he was given respiratory, temperature and food support in order to keep him alive. The care he was given by the staff during his 4 week stay was incredible and he wouldn't be here today without it. It's not just pre-term babies who end up on the unit, 10% of all babies born will require some form of support from NICU. Along with the amazing care and support given by the staff, the equipment used is vital in providing this life saving support.
The unit relies on lots of generous donations to provide such a high level of care to both the babies and parents. It also has a large wishlist of equipment needed to keep this care going and increase their capacity. One of these is the Vapotherm machine used for repiratory support. These machines help support babies breathing by delivering a high flow of gas at body temperature with close to 100% relative humidity. So that is Charlie's Challenge, to raise enough money to allow the SNICU to purchase a new Vapotherm machine, to give back a little to the unit and help them give life support to even more babies in need.
The cost is around £3,500 so please give what you can so we can meet Charlie's target.
Thanks so much, Em and Jo
