Weʼre raising £3,500 to Carry out my elective midwifery placement in Ghana.
- Takoradi, Ghana
Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
I am a student midwife raising money to pay for my elective placement to Ghana - Takoradi in July 2019!
The money raised will help cover the cost of the placement itself including; flights, accommodation, food, language lessons, equipment I will need as well as extra equipment as donations to the hospital and village I will be volunteering in.
The placement will be 3 weeks long. I will work in a main hospital for 2 weeks followed by a week in a small rural fishing village living alongside a local family! My time in the hospital will enable me to care for women undergoing cesarean sections or having breech births, many of which who have not received any antenatal care! During the rural week I will be able to attend the villages health care centre and conduct outreach to primary school aged children.
Having the opportunity to take part in such an amazing experience will enable me to learn new skills and gain an insight in differences in the care those in Ghana receive during pregnancy, labour & birth and the postnatal period compared to the UK where we have access to the NHS. I will also be able to help others by sharing my knowledge and skills, hopefully helping to facilitate safe care for mothers and babies.
Any donations made will be greatly appreciated and I promise to take you all on my journey through updates and photographs of my time out in Ghana. This is something I am passionate about doing as one of the main reasons for becoming a midwife is to give back to those who need it. Volunteering in Ghana will enable me to use best practices I have learned and hopefully teach others.
