Story
East Manchester Football club are taking part in Tough Mudder in the midlands on the 21st May 2017 to raise money for EMFC and Child flight.
Child Flight is the charity that has been selected by Maizy’s parents.
Child Flight is a children's charity, based at Manchester Airport,
and offers flights and holidays for sick and deserving children of all ages.
Maizey was the Niece of Mark O'Conner who has been a player, Second team manager and First team manager of EMFC and a valued member of the club for over 20 years,
Maizy’s story
In August 2011 Maizy Burke was diagnosed with Leukemia at the age of 11, she went through 2 ½ years of grueling treatment which included chemotherapy, lumber punches on a regular basis (injecting chemotherapy directly into her spine) as well as daily medicines and injections. During the treatment process Maizy was provided with a wig as she lost her hair twice during this grueling process, unphased by this she was too courageous to let the loss of her hair stand in her way and only actually wore it once! She rang the victory bell to end her treatment on the 20th January 2015 on her 13th birthday.
From this point Maizy went on to grow into a beautiful young teenager and flourish as you would expect her to do at that age and start to enjoy her life again. Then in December 2016 our worlds were turned upside down, the Leukemia had returned.
Maizy went back into the Royal Manchester Children’s hospital on the 13th December and was told she would be spending Christmas and New Year on ward 84 with a double dose of Chemotherapy.
She started to take a turn for the worse early January 2017 and very suddenly with the space of 24 hours she had been moved to Intensive care.
Maizy passed away on 12:25am on the 11th January 2017, 9 days before her 15th birthday
Please dig deep and donate for a very special cause, as this will help others like Maizy’s during the worst time of their lives.
Thank you.
