Due to the government funding cuts there has been a lot of services in the city of Stoke-on-Trent cut. This means that parents and young people are left without any support or guidance. In our city there is an increase in gangs and youth violence which is impacting on the lives of our young people and their families. Everyday more and more young people are at risk of getting involved with gangs/ youth violence and the criminal justice system. Through personal experience of how tough this can be examples include: having professionals involved for the first time, being slated on social media when an incident has happened (being called bad parents), being threatened, having strangers turn up to our properties after our children, being judged. We have joined to create a community support group for parents/carers who have children involved in or are at risk of being involved in the criminal justice system. This group provides out of hours support and has given parents a voice to be heard. We are working hard to ensure people know we are there and we can help. Our group provides a range of activities, free AQA training courses, talks from professionals and just a good old brew and a chat. We want to raise money for this group to allow us to keep going and provide more and more support and to be able to deliver meaningful and enjoyable activities and sessions. We want to make a difference within our city.
