Story
Chloe Perrott and Anna Barber will be running 13 miles in the Cardiff half marathon, alongside 60 other runners to help raise money and awarness of the Drew Barker-Wright Foundation Trust. #TeamDrew
Being two members of staff from Llangors Primary School; we wanted to join Drew's parents, family and friends as they all take on the cardiff half marathon in Drew's memory, especially as Drew would have been a pupil in our school.
Please read about Drew's brave story for a little boy so young and beautiful.
In early November 2016, three year old Drew Barker-Wright was diagnosed with Chordoma, a rare type of cancer that occurs in the skull base and spine. He was admitted Oncology at Birmingham Children's Hospital where he began intensive chemotherapy and surgery. Drew's journey was fraught with complications from the outset. This was primarily due to the rareness of his cancer and the lack of documented cases.
On the morning of February 24th 2017, Drew took his last breath at home with mummy and daddy. His battle was brief and brutal but, bravely fought for one so young.
Since losing Drew his parents, Mel and Jon, have tried to find something positive in all the heartache. The local and wider community raised a substantial amount of money for Drew during his fight. They both felt that this needed to be spent on improving the chances of survival for other children with this diagnosis.
Currently, they are in the process of setting up a charitable trust in Drew's name. The charity will focus on raising money to fund paediatric chordoma research and support young children around the world whose lives have been devastated by this cancer.
As their first event in Drew's memory, Mel and Jon have assembled a team of 50+ runners to take on the Cardiff Half Marathon on October 1st 2017. The team consists of seasoned runners and absolute beginners. We are delighted to have on board Steven Mandel, a chordoma survivor. Mel and Jon hope that this will be the first of many events in Drew's memory, with the aim to raise as much money as possible and improve the survival chances of paediatric chordoma sufferers worldwide.
Please support Mel and Jon, and the team of runners as we dedicate our time, sweat and tears to the memory of Drew Barker-Wright, their darling little boy.

7 years agoA very big thank you for everyone's support and very generous sponsors that we have received on this page. Without your help we wouldn't have achieved and exceeded our £400 target. A massive thank you to all of your kind generosity for this very good cause. In total myself and Anna have raised just over £800 in sponsors. Thank you for all of your well wishes. We will be thinking of little Drew every step of the way tomorrow. #TeamDrew 💙
