Louisa’s story: "I have chosen to travel to Sri Lanka for my third year nursing elective placement, through the company 'Work the World'. I will be spending four weeks there working alongside the Sri Lankan nursing staff and helping them provide care for paediatric patients of the second largest hospital in Sri Lanka.

My nursing course is specifically child health, so in March 2017 I will be spending the four weeks rotating around different children's wards of the hospital. There is a busy paediatric department, with around 120 beds. I hope to spend time in the intensive care unit, neonatal unit and the sick baby ward. This is an opportunity to work alongside the Sri Lankan nursing staff, providing a helping hand in what will be under resourced and under staffed wards. This is a self funded placement so I will be fundraising and saving from my part time job to fund it.

So to raise money for the trip I have drafted in my family to exert themselves physically with me this and take part in a 'Quadrathalon' (or as mum suggested a 'Slavathon'!!) in which we will all do a separate part. I am very thankful for them helping me out so any sponsorship will be greatly appreciated and will get us all motivated!! I am hoping to raise enough so that I can take donations for the hospital as they are lacking in some of the most basic equipment that we often take for granted in hospitals here in Scotland.
