It’s that time of year again, when I’m gearing up to run the Bristol Half Marathon. In the past, I’ve run for Cancer research, MacMillan, and for Dr Hadwen (non animal testing). This year, I’m very proud to say that I’m running for a slightly different cause – which is in support of my late father’s part in the Bristol Bach Choir foundation – the Alan Farnill Fund.

Many years ago in July of 1967, my Dad co-founded The Bristol Bach Choir, which has just celebrated its 50th anniversary! The choir continues to perform regularly throughout the year and brings a great deal of pleasure to both its members and the local community. As with any choir or ‘group’, funding can often be a challenge – both in attracting new members and for music, marketing, concert venues etc.

When Dad sadly passed away in 2014, a Fund was set up in his memory and the donations to this fund were used to support new joiners (under 30 years of age) with their choir membership and music costs. This has worked well so far, and has already helped attract new members to the choir.

Co-founding the choir was the realisation of a vision for Dad. One that would enable people to come together to make and share their mutual appreciation of music. I’m running this race to help keep that vision alive. Any donation, however small, will be extremely welcome.
