We will walk 32 miles from zoes place to whitby 09/06/18 to raise funds for the children of ward 4 at Newcastle rvi, in memory of Cian. Here is a few words from his parents to explain why we are doing this.
As parents the feeling you get when you hold your baby for the first time in indescribable. On the 8th of September 2014 we welcomed a beautiful loving funny charismatic little boy into our family... The youngest of four Cian James was the finishing piece to our perfect puzzle. October 2015 came and our world shattered into a million pieces, Cian was diagnosed with an aggressive childhood cancer, high risk neuroblastoma. The feelings of fear and desperation we all felt were unbearable, but for Cian we vowed we would fight this awful disease with every breath we had. Cian faced everything bravely with a smile and a giggle and lots of love... Even learning to walk on the ward.. All to rapturous applause from the nurses. After months of chemotherapy and it side effects, numerous minor surgical procedures and a major operation that removed his tumour Cian was doing amazingly well. On the 7th of Feb 2016 Cian was admitted for his high dose chemo and stem cell transplant. He never left the rvi again. After 3 months of battling complications Cian developed busulfan lung a rare complication from a high dose drug.. This made his breathing so laboured his little body couldn't find the strength to cope and he passed away with us on April 21st at 6.08 am. We can't describe the way our lives have changed since that moment, they will simply never be the same again. We have decided to raise funds for the ward where Cian spent his last three months as a thankyou to all the support we received there and to try and help relieve the tedium felt by the children when they like Cian was, are stuck in a room through illness or infection, to brighten up their days if only for a while...
