    Story

Please note that a new page has been created via https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/claire-aris-2 because this page has now expired.

My beloved wife, Claire, was diagnosed with lung cancer in May 2021 and sadly died just seven months later. Her illness was short and brutal and she leaves a huge void in the lives of her many friends and family. During her illness, Claire came into contact with Everybreath, a local lung cancer support group. I have recently become a trustee of Everybreath and am working with them to fulfil Claire’s wishes and to build her legacy.

Claire was treated for her cancer at The Princess Royal Hospital Farnborough, where she met senior lung cancer nurse Nicola Delobel. Nicky’s support and experience was invaluable and they formed a close bond. Early in 2021, Nicola had set up Everybreath, a support group for those affected by lung cancer. Everybreath facilitates monthly meetings where patients, survivors and others affected by lung cancer can talk about their experiences and emotions. Having the opportunity to meet and share stories with others affected by lung cancer was a great comfort. It was Claire’s wish that Everybreath would be able to continue and expand its work for the future.

    Fundraising Events:

On 11th June, we are doing a Birthday walk for Claire through Chislehurst starting at the Bickley Arms at 1 pm (approx. 5km). There will be a toast for Claire's Birthday at the end of the walk in the Bickley Arms.

On 25th July 2022, we are holding a golf day in Claire's memory. This day would have been our 12th wedding anniversary where we will have drinks and prizes in the early evening. Any donations to Everybreath will be much appreciated.

On 7th May, some of Claire's closest friends (Shab Khan, Sean Murphy, Victor Cebotari) walked the entire length of the South Downs Way from Winchester to Eastbourne, a total distance of 100 miles to also help raise funds for Everybreath.org.uk. Please give what you can to help.

Max Glennon, my son, ran the Boston Marathon on 18th April to raise money for Everybreath.org.uk.

    The aims of Everybreath:

Everybreath comprises a group of patients, survivors, partners, family, friends and carers who have experienced the trauma of lung cancer. The primary aim of the group is to provide a relaxed and friendly environment for the provision of both emotional and practical support and guidance to anyone affected by lung cancer.

As well as a forum for meeting others, sharing experiences and developing coping strategies, Everybreath provides access to additional specialist medical and support services. We also organise social events for families and invite experts to speak on a range of related topics.

Everybreath is committed to raising awareness of lung cancer and challenging preconceptions about lung cancer and smoking that can hamper early diagnosis. We continue to work with local GPs, clinical staff at local hospital trusts, as well as other established groups, organisations and charities to improve early diagnosis and lend our support for the campaign for a National Screening program.
