Weʼve raised £2,020 to Fund a new sensory garden for our Dementia Unit

Funded on Friday, 13th August 2021

    Story

Here at Balhousie Pitlochry we have a beautiful open space to the side of our home that is lacking stimulation of any kind. We would love to turn this into a wonderful sensory garden full of colour, sound and textures for our residents, relatives and staff.

To encourage a few more donations, Claire MacKay, Home Manager, Shona Hutchcox, Home Administrator and Eilidh Thomson Activities Coordinator, are going to be walking the West Highland Way, 81 miles of this will be walked virtually and the final 15miles, the stretch between Kinlochleven and Fort William will be physically walked!!

The leisurely version of the West Highland Way is usually completed within 9 days. Due to work and family commitments we are aiming to complete this in the first 14 days of May! We will keep everyone updated via the page here or our home facebook page!

    Wish us luck!!

Well it's been a busy few months since the big walk! We are still completely overwhelmed by all the generous donations we received, for what is an amazing project! Speaking of which, we are currently in talks with a local contractor about materials etc as we have an idea in our minds as to how it it going to look. We are hopeful that the initial groundworks will start soon however, covid is still affecting deliveries of materials to suppliers so may have to go stage by stage. We like you are so looking forward to seeing the work start 😁

So this time next week we will have completed the stretch of the WHW between Kinlochleven and Fort William. How we will be holding up after it will be anyones guess 🤣 We are currently sitting at 28miles completed, weekend going to be a busy one, with hopefully lots of miles covered. Thanks again to everyone who has donated so far!!

So day1! Four seasons in one day, a gentle stroll turned into mile upon mile of hills!! Even hiked one hill in a hailstone shower!! 🙄😝 Managed to get first 11 miles done though so not a bad wee start☺️
