Story
We are planning to Walk the Waterfront of the City of Southampton in one day on Sunday 9th April. From Weston Shore through to Redbridge, Swaythling to St Denys, this walk of nearly 20 miles takes in the special places in our city where we have access to our waterfront.
Teams from Southampton Scrapstore, Transition Southampton and October Books will complete the walk and we are asking you to sponsor them. PLEASE NOTE: If you would like your donation to go to a specific organisation please just say so in a comment with your donation.
Teams from the following organisations are taking part.
Southampton Scrapstore - a creative hub of recycled resources and craft workshops - raising funds to maintain its van.
October Books - an independent bookshop promoting social equality and justice - raising funds to upgrade its ageing computer system.
Transition Southampton's - a voluntary group aiming to help imagine and create a healthy, fair and positive post-carbon society - raising funds to promote its work and distribute information about sustainable living.
The Three Rivers Community Rail Partnership - works to promote and improve our local train and local bus services and stations - raising funds for community gardens at stations.
We want to support the organisations we are raising funds for because they have given so much to the city, community and residents. Between them they have provided training and a confidence boost to 100s of volunteers, provided an amazing educational resource for the city, saved 100 of Tonnes of materials going to landfill or incineration, contributed to a reduction in pollution and shared a message of positive action and hope in difficult times.
Every donation of £10 or more will be eligible for a FREE copy of the Station Walks book, many sections of these walks will be in the route covered by the teams on their Walk The Waterfront Challenge. FREE copies available from October Books and Southampton Scrapstore.

7 years agoHello all, and many thanks for donating to Walk the Waterfront which was a very special day. In total we raised £505, taking into account donations at the Scrapstore and October Books as well as a few other personal donations. That's £126 to each of the organisation we were raising funds for, which is a bit less than the original target but very worthwhile none-the-less. Perhaps a bigger and better event next year raising money for the people's community fund? Warmest regards Clare

7 years agoWhat an amazing day.... we had 20 or so people on the walk altogether and it was lovely that people could come and go. Two of us completed to full walk (although we did miss a couple of sections due to time restraints). A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to the day, Lynne for doing the fetching and carrying, Debs and Chris for the wonderful Cafe Hawkeswood, family Kinge for their amazing effort, Liz and Lou for photos and many more. The picture from the start of the day with more to follow. Thank you for your donations and support.

7 years agoOnly a few days to go and the weather forecast is looking good, so I hope a few more of you can join us on the day. Quite a few people doing the whole thing and lots of people joining along the way. In addition to the funds donated here there is also nearly £100 donated at the Scrapstore. You can of course donate on the day and I will be bringing a few copies of the Station Walks book if you want to donate £10 or more. Really looking forward to the pop-up cafe at Deb and Chris's place, that will be our mid morning stop. See you soon. Clare
