Comfort Days for Girls' are an innovative new charity driven by a single goal: the promotion of equality through empowerment and education. They believe simple and small steps can have a large and powerful effect.

The initiative aims to educate women on reproductive/menstrual health, dispel myths and provide a practical solution to the lack of sanitary products. During July and August this year, we will have the honour of going to Malawi and working closely with this charity.

Using an interpreter, we will deliver education to women including: basic anatomy of the uterus & ovaries, the menstrual cycle (length, ovulation, mood changes etc) , pregnancy , contraception , STI’s and provide an open and safe environment for any questions to be asked.

Currently in Malawi, disposable and reusable pads are available but unaffordable for many women and girls. Initiatives and programmes donate pads, but still miss some of the poorest members of society. The reality - most women and girls are forced to use old cloths that are ineffective. We provide a simple solution: we teach the girls how to make their own beautiful, affordable, super absorbent and re-usable pad.

Every penny donated will go directly to the initiative and make an unbelievable difference. For the pads that we will teach the girls and women to make- the materials cost just 7p. The long term goal is that girls can afford to make their own, once they have learnt the necessary skills. However, as Comfort Days for Girls is a new charity they still need funds to buy the materials, sewing equipment and teaching materials. At 7p a pad, even a small donation will go incredibly far and help many women.

Another goal from fundraising is to allow Comfort Days for Girls to purchase a sewing machine. This machine would be lent out to communities, after a teaching session of how to use it, allowing them to make as many pads as they want for the girls and women in a much shorter time. With these machines costing around £90 in Malawi, this goal is more ambitious- but anything that can be put towards it is a movement in the right direction.
