    Story

Childhood is the most crucial time in a person's life and getting it right for children at this stage will pave the way for a happy and fulfilled life. It is vitally important that children feel safe, nurtured and supported so that they can flourish. Our charity, The Children's Wood, has this aim at its heart and this is why we are climbing Ben Nevis.

The Children’s Wood aspires to what can be thought of as “normal childhood experiences” It might seem crazy to want to create nothing more than “normal” childhood experiences - but when you have grown up in a life of trauma, or a life full of screens and indoor activities, there is nothing better sounding than a normal experience or two.

Your donation will support the development of normal childhood experiences and environments for children and their families in the G20 area of Glasgow.

Too often childhood can be traumatic and unhappy for children. A lack of nurturing, safe and supportive spaces for children, young people and their families can make the problem worse. These conditoins should be a basic human given for children and their families.

The consequence of trauma and a toxic environment on a child's development is profound and long lasting. It doesn't need to be this way. We can support childrens' inner resilience and feelings of being loved through cultivating and nurturing healthy positive relationships, and educating families and the community about the issues. Having access to trauma informed spaces is vitally important for this.

The environment for healthy child development is crucial and over the last several decades there has been an increasing number of restrictions placed on children's access to greenspace - they are suffering. For the first time in human history children are not playing or working on the land like they once did.

Greenspaces provide a calming, nurturing and creative context for children and are •essential• for healthy child development. The Children's Wood is seeking to address this issue in childhood by supporting children, families and the wider community to access a local wild space for gardening, play and fun.

Your donation will go towards suporting children and families to have access to a trauma informed, nutruing, safe space with a diverse programme for young people and families at The G20 Youth Festival. Your donation will also go towards programmes such as forest school, gardening, community events and outdoor playgroups at the Children's Wood.

The Children's Wood and G20 Youth Festival (The Children's Wood youth club) community will be hiking to the top of Ben Nevis - the tallest mountain in the U.K on the 8th of June 2022 and we hope you will support us.

This trip up Ben Nevis is a once in a lifetime event for the young people, staff and volunteers.

The group plan to ascend Ben Nevis 8th June. They are lucky to have support from a team who have successfully led various groups up Ben Nevis.

This event will not only help The Children's Wood to raise funds to help others but it will stretch and transform the lives of those taking part in the project.

If you'd like to get involved you can donate here, or you can come and join us on the adventure.

    Thank you
