Story
In 2008, Karl and I were deployed to Afghanistan with the Parachute Regiment. Towards the end of the tour we were both shot by an Afghan soldier while we were sleeping.
We spent 18 months recovering, and when I went into close protection, and Karl remained in service, we lost touch. After bumping in to each other after a couple of years, we realised we could support each other having gone through the same battles, both physically and mentally.
We have decided to climb Kilimanjaro, both to raise awareness and funds for an amazing cause, Invisible Wounds, and to embark on a hell of a challenge – something both of us have missed.
We have chosen to raise money for Invisible Wounds as they helped me when I was at an all-time low. Invisible Wounds have helped me in so many ways, not least by giving me my confidence back and offering me an opportunity to play a key role in the development of the organisation.
When Invisible Wounds asked me to do this challenge, I was at the bottom, and to complete this proves that the only way is up (literally!). It will also be a huge thank you to the team and all involved with Invisible Wounds and Step Forward Homes.
Invisible Wounds provide an invaluable service to ex-service men and women, providing support with housing, employability and mental health support. By donating to this challenge, you are helping countless individuals get back on their feet.
Thank you for your support!
Mick and Karl.
