Light in difficult times...
A pandemic, lockdown and continued anxiety as society re-opens has made it a very difficult time for people, and issues relating to mental health and well-being have affected many. Businesses on Dale Road in Matlock wanted to do something small to make a difference and initially started displaying stars in their window as a message of hope and togetherness in lockdown. A number of stars were sold to residents, with £5 going into a 'pot' for local good causes. A Matlock resident nominated a community organisation , The Connection Space CIC, to be the beneficiary of the fund raising because of their work to reduce isolation and create connections during lockdown.
Then Matlock artist, Nick Leake, was so inspired by the stars and the spirit of community, that he painted a beautiful, Van Gogh inspired artwork he named ‘Starry Starry Road.’ He kindly agreed that his painting (currently exhibited at my partner's shop, Hide and Thread, at 117 Dale Road, Matlock), can be used as a way to raise money. Now, this page has been set up as a way to raise funds for the Connection Space CIC, with the added incentive that every £5 donation can be recorded as a chance to win Nick's fabulous painting.
Donate and connect to join the 'lottery'
To be part of the lottery to win Nick's painting, just choose to record your name (don’t be anonymous) when you donate to this page and then just email email@example.com with your name (and contact details) so we can add you to the 'lottery list.' Mark your email subject heading Starry Road Lottery. Physical lottery tickets can also be purchased at Hide and Thread, and will available at Hide and Thread’s stall at Matlock's 'Welcome Back' weekend , at Hall Leys park, on Saturday August 21st. The draw will take place on Friday October 29th and the winner will be notified by email. The Connection Space CIC plan to use the funds to provide volunteering opportunities in a local outdoor community space in Matlock, supporting mental health and well being. Our cover picture is artist Nick Leake with Mary Derrick from The Connection Space CIC with the painting, Starry Starry Road.

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
About the fundraiser
My partner has a shop on Dale Road, Matlock. We've been working with other traders to develop Dale Road Independents and connect with residents and the community :-).
