Story
Conor is a budding athlete who has played football continuously over the past 5 years or more with West Brom's development centre located in Gloucester. He has also represented his school in the English School's Football Association and has played for Gloucestershire County as well as his local Sunday league team. At the beginning of last season he sustained an injury to his groin and underwent a series of physio sessions following which he was referred to a hip specialist. After 2 MRI scans (one of which we had to pay for) he was diagnosed with a suspected Femoro Acetabular Impingement (FAI) and told that he would need to undergo keyhole surgery in the form of a hip arthroscopy. A date at the end of January was initially given but unfortunately had to be cancelled as the demand for surgery and hospital beds meant that he was "bumped" to a later date. After many conversations with the hospital, the surgeon's secretary and the PALS representative it has become clear that Conor is somewhere near the bottom of an extensive list of candidates for surgery and the hospital are unable to even suggest a likely date at this stage. We have no idea when he will be treated.
Since Conor was five years old he has loved sports. He has participated in football, trampolining, swimming, athletics, rugby, cricket and athletics. Football became his love and he was hoping to make the West Brom. Academy. He has so much talent, passion and drive. Since the end of August last year he can only walk without pain and even a gentle run is excruciating for him. He cannot play football, run or join in with any form of exercise or physical activity. He cannot partake at P.E at school which he has chosen as one of his GCSE's. He has suffered not only with physical pain but the emotional struggles of a teenager being no longer able to channel his energy into any form of physical outlet. Conor is due to take his GCSE's next year and needs to get this operation done as quickly as possible to give him the chance to focus on the future and be part of school life as every child should both in an academic and physical way. We feel this could change his future if it is not deal with soon.
Right now we are not in a position to pay for his surgery. This is very frustrating and we see no alternative but to appeal to a wider audience for help. Any amount you can give, however small, would be hugely appreciated and help to give Conor a real chance at fulfilling his potential.

6 years agoFor everyone who has been kind enough to donate that we received a call from the NHS this afternoon advising us that due to a cancellation, Conor has now been allocated a date for surgery at the end of March. This is a totally unexpected development and we are of course delighted to pass on the news. Assuming his surgery goes ahead then we will ensure that everyone who has kindly donated will get a full refund. We wanted to share this great news with you as soon as we could so fingers crossed that he won't get cancelled once again.
