    Story

    *UPDATED Saturday 7th July 2018*

Cookie was 15 weeks old. On Tuesday (13th February) when he started limping and crying. We took him to the emergency vets and unfortunately he had broken his back leg. We think he’s jumped up and fallen from the kitchen table. (The table has now been moved).

My friend had 4 weeks free insurance from the vets with PetPlan put in place at Cookies first injections. It had run out the day before which meant Cookie was not covered. TYPICAL!

You can judge my friend and say she should’ve been more careful letting the free insurance run out but she’s had a rough time recently and life got in the way. It could happen to anyone. This lady works full time. She CAN afford her Pet. He IS now insured with PetPlan. She made a small mistake and it’s cost her big time. She's an every day, hard working Mum. She's a wonderful caring person and she deserves a bit of a break.

Cookie was an unexpected present from an Uncle to her 8 year old son who was still devastated by the death of the previous family dog just before Christmas. This was swiftly followed by the death of a loved one that has impacted heavily on the family. She simply made a mistake because life got in the way.

In the meantime... Cookie had a spiral fracture and his back femur broke in 2. If we couldn't raise the money and pay upfront to cover the cost of treatment to repair his leg then the kindest and cheapest option would be to euthanise Cookie to put him out of his pain. The next cheapest option without putting down an otherwise healthy, beautuful puppy would be £800 to amputate his leg.I wasn’t about to let either of these options happen so I the only other thing I could. I begged, I rang everyone we know and eventually had to give in, swallow my pride and borrow the money from the landlord of my business premises. (Such an amazing kind man!) and Cookie had his leg “fixed”

Cookie had 2 nights at the vet, 2 general aneasthetics, several X-Rays and finally an operation. He had his leg cut open, a pin put in to fix the bone together and plates screwed on to keep it all in place. Then it's all been stitched up and we were been instructed 2-4 weeks cage rest for good recovery. Total vet cost so far £2552!!!

We couldn’t crowd fund before the operation as time was ticking, costs were racking up the longer Cookie was just sat waiting on pain relief.. £2552 in vet costs, lots of expensive taxis to and from the vets and an operation later we had Cookie home. Cookie has had 2 more post op checks and has healed really well. He’s now a happy, healthy, giddy almost 9 month old puppy with a bug debt!

I want to try raise the money to pay back my wonderful landlord ASAP who helped us get Cookie on his road to recovery. We‘ve repaid the total raised so far and are currently paying this lovely man £20 per month which will take a while! To say the least!

Thank you in advance to anyone that can donate even the smallest amount. And MASSIVE thanks to all those who have donated so far. 🙏🏻❤️

Having a healthy dog put down because of a broken leg was NOT an option. I did what I could to help like anyone would, now I just need to fundraise so I can pay the nice person who lent us the money back. Just the minimum donation makes a MASSIVE difference 🙏🏻
