On the 15th of April 2017 I will be taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge.

This involves walking 24 miles, with 5200ft of ascent in 12 hours without stopping.

I will be doing this in order to raise money to fund myself and a group of 31 other volunteer students from Edinburgh University to take a Medical Brigade to Honduras this summer.

We will be doing this through the charity Global Brigades which focuses on sustainable, holistic development in Central America and West Africa. To do this they send groups of fundraising university students just like us with professionals in the field to rural communities. Examples of the many types of brigades Global Brigades send are Human rights brigades, Water brigades, Dental brigades, Micro finance brigades, Business brigades and Environmental brigades.

During our medical brigade from June the 26th to July the 4th 2017 we will be setting up in a community which has requested Global Brigades assistance. Here we will asses patient's vitals, run gynaecology, dental and vision clinics, set up a pharmacy, run sessions teaching both children and adults about primary health care and training community healthcare workers so that baseline health is improved in the region.

Before we go we will be learning basic Spanish in order to communicate with the community better (although we will be travelling with translators) and practising basic medical skills (many of us study medical orientated degrees but this is not a requirement).
