And a huge THANK YOU to our local NHS staff.

    *** DAY 4 UPDATE ***

The achievement of all of our cyclists this week has been spectacular. An impressive effort saw us pass the 1600 mile target on day 2! And even went beyond that target on days 3 and 4 alone.

    Day 1: 1315 miles

    Day 2: 1364 miles

    Day 3: 1717 miles

    Day 4: 2006 miles

    Total so far: 6402 miles!!!

    ===============================

Through these difficult times it is important that we continue to look after our physical and mental wellbeing.

With that in mind, Creggan Wheelers are running a cycling challenge during the month of June.

The challenge will begin on 1st June with 3 weeks of training. The main event will then take place from Monday 22nd to Sunday 28th June.

The main event challenges us as a group to clock up a combined 1600 miles - equivalent to cycling a Lap of Ireland.

Participants, friends and family will have the opportunity to make a donation. The money raised will go to our local NHS.

Supporting our local health service workers was an easy choice, not least because of their efforts during the current pandemic, but particularly because of the experience of one of our own members.

Having contracted Covid-19, Gerard McLarnon began a hard fought battle against the virus, aided commendably by the wonderful staff at the Antrim Area, Belfast City and Mater Hospitals.

We were all delighted to get the news that Gerard had left intensive care after a very tough two months. His recovery now underway, the club really wanted to show our appreciation for the sterling work of the people in our NHS.

    So what next?

    - Get registered on Entry Central

    - Team leaders and further details of this challenge to be confirmed in due course.

Throughout the event it is important that all participants adhere to government guidance around social distancing. We recommend limiting activities to solo cycles or small groups of up to 6 people at all times.

The focus of this event is Community and what we can achieve as a collective. During the challenge, in the week of Monday 22nd to Sunday 28th June, we are aiming to cycle 1600 miles as ONE team.

So, whether you can cycle ten or fifty miles that week, we’d love you to be a part of this.

Remember there are no league tables and every mile counts in taking us over that finish line at 1600 miles.

Team leaders will collate the miles covered each day. We will then let you all know how far as a collective we’ve cycled, which town we’re in and maybe what we’ve been up to along the way. 😊

So if you haven’t already let us know you’re in, sign up now, get those wheels pumped and enjoy!!

Remember to post to the group some photos of you on your travels.

Stay safe and remember to adhere to social distancing guidelines.

Time to dust off those saddles and let the challenge begin!

Full details of the event will be updated on our club social media pages:

Having started out expecting to get about 20 or so people to sign up for the cyCLAP challenge, attempting to collectively cover 1600 miles, we have more than 90 people on board, and after 4 days have incredibly clocked up more than 6400 miles. So, we're into our 5th lap of Ireland. It's been an impressive effort and great fun at the same time. Keep it up! Keep an eye on our facebook and twitter pages for more updates.
