Weʼre raising £3,500 to help maintain and equip the gigs of Tresco & Bryher Rowing Club by becoming the first female gig crew to row Scilly to Penzance and back

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

In September 2018, the Czar Girls crew of Tresco & Bryher Gig Rowing Club will attempt to become the first female gig crew to row from the Isles of Scilly to Penzance - and back! The ladies recently came 11th in the world at the World Pilot Gig Championships in May 2018, but this challenge is on another level.
The challenge will take place in September 2018 (weather dependent!) and will see the 6 girls and coxswain row the Czar nearly 100 miles from Tresco on the Isles of Scilly to Penzance in West Cornwall, and back again.
The challenge will mark the 50th anniversary of the Czar’s first mainland row and celebrate her forthcoming 140th birthday.
They're taking on this challenge to raise vital funds for the club to maintain its collection of four pilot gigs - including the Czar; one of the few remaining Victorian era Scillonian pilot gigs, built in 1879.
For centuries, Gigs were the lifeboats and pilot boats of Scilly. Today, they are raced purely for fun, but with the races firmly rooted in the traditions of the past.
Tresco & Bryher Gig Rowing Club is an active, welcoming gig club and a Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC). Our fundraising helps ensure these unique pieces of Scillonian history are kept alive, maintained and used for the seafaring purposes for which they were built, not merely consigned to museums.
The Czar Girls are attempting to raise £3,500 for the maintenance of our beautiful Scillonian gigs, and to purchase a new set of racing paddles.

Raise a bit more and get a new timber Czar for the club. Row ing 100miles will be very trying for 7 humans but will be even more testing on a 140 year old!
