    Story

Cancer doesn't care whether you have never before thought about a particular part of your body, nor does it care whether or not you can spell that part of your body. Cancer is happy to invade it all the same.

In 2016 when my lovely Dad Norman developed swallowing problems it wasn't something I really had any idea about what the cause could be. I knew he hadn't had a stroke so other than that I was a bit stumped. It was therefore a bit of a shocker when we were told after investigations that it looked likely to be oesophageal cancer. The thing about oesophageal cancer is that by the time the symptoms are spotted and a person has received a diagnosis it is often too late and the cancer has spread. Often by the time a person notices their first symptoms the cancer has already spread. This often makes a diagnosis with oesophageal cancer a terminal one. And it's a grisly one too. Whilst oesophageal stents can maximise the time a patient is able to eat relatively normally, unfortunately these stents do tend to fail after a while. A person who can't easily eat or drink is robbed of so much. My Dad loved a cup of tea, cheese and biscuits and steak and kidney pies and unfortunately he was robbed of the chance to be able to enjoy these simple pleasures ; ultimately he was unable to eat or drink at all. Unfortunately after the most incredible fight which lasted just over 2 years; 18 months of which he had lived to the full, my Dad, a Grampy, a husband, a friend and a brother passed away in Danetre Hospital Hospice in December 2017, he was 71.

I am hosting this raffle to win a lovely selection of beauty products to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and for Danetre Hospice where Dad spent his final few days and received truly outstanding care and of course to raise the awareness of Oesophageal cancer.

Please take a moment to read the symptoms of oesophageal cancer and then give generously to be in with a chance of winning some beautiful prizes. Thank you.

The 3rd prize may be better than the second prize! A great one for Clarins fans! The 3 prize winners will be contacted and will be asked to choose their prize from the remaining prizes! Not long to go now! The fundraising will close on Sunday and the draws will hopefully be made on Mobday!

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated. There is going to be a 3rd prize! I just need to photograph and describe it! I've extended the closing date by a few days to allow me time to get it sorted. Exciting! Watch this space!
