Meet Daisy, she is a rescue I have had nearly 2 years now, I originally had her as a long term foster as she has Cushings Disease, but it soon became clear that the rescue could not afford her vet bills, and so we took her on as our own. When she came to us she weighed about 3kg, nearly every bone showed, was almost completely bald on her body, and in very sorry state, I soon had her to the vets for blood tests, she was confirmed as having Cushings and put on a course of treatment, she also had slipping patellas, but as I had been told by the rescue that she very bad arthritis in her knee bones and nothing could be done, my vet and I decided to tackle this issue at a later date. Getting her to gain weight was very difficult as the Cushings does not allow the body to ingest all the food that she eats, problem solved once she was on a raw diet and she put on weight, over the last 18 months her tummy has reduced in size, her coat is now quite thick and she is as well as she ever will be as long as she takes her meds every day, this cost £80 per month.
Two weeks ago she was limping after our walk so I took her to the vets the next day, x rays were taken and her hips and knee joints need operating on, she has severe hip dysplasia, and her knees are dislocated most of the time, her bones are bent and malformed so probably a genetic cause, this means she has been in pain for most of her life, this needs corrective surgery which is why we are raising money.
A little bit about Daisy, she was dumped at a pound just over 2 years ago, she was spayed while there, but still nobody wanted her, probably because she was such a sorry sight, when the rescue picked her up she was due to be put to sleep the following day.
she is a joy to have, she shows her love for us like no dog I have ever owned,
She is presently on painkillers to ease her discomfort.
