Story

Hi Everyone

I hope you’re all well. Many of you know our younger brother Dan was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) in October 2018. Leukaemia is cancer of the white blood cells, Acute leukaemia means it progresses rapidly and aggressively and requires immediate treatment. Around 2,600 people are diagnosed with AML each year in the UK.

Dan had been suffering with a sore throat and fever and generally feeling unwell for a few weeks. After a couple of visits to the doctors and a dose of antibiotics, it was suspected that he had glandular fever so a routine blood test was carried out to confirm this. The following evening he had a knock at his door from his GP to tell him to go urgently to Sandwell Hospitals A & E department as leukaemia was supsected. The AML diagnosis was confirmed the following day.

He has currently had 3 rounds of intense chemotherapy and is doing really well, he is continuing to stay strong and positive that he will fight and beat this disease. To make this happen he needs a stem cell transplant, which may be happening in March after 2 possible donor matches were found. His treatment will take him over a year to fully recover physically, for him to be able to return to work. It's a long tough journey and if we can we want to take some pressure off him and his wife, Reana while he has his treatment.

To help him and his family out financially through this tough time, we’re asking family, friends, friends of friends; the more the merrier to get involved with us by doing XRunners Wild Warrior on 21st September in Derbyshire. There are different events throughout the day to accomodate different ages and levels of fitness (so no excuse!) please see link:

Children's (4 - 12 year olds) fun run starts at 12.10hrs and 14.10hrs

The Teens Family Fun Run 5k (12 years and over) starts at 2pm under 15's need to be accompanied by an adult.

The Adult 5k or 10k starts at various times throughout the day, we are looking at participating in the 11am event.

You can help by entering and getting as much sponsorship as possible or just donate to this page if you are unable to participate.

Along with helping Dan and Reana, part of the money raised will go to Cure Leukaemia charity; the founder of this charity is Prof Charlie Craddock, who will be treating Dan at the Q.E centre for Clincal Haematology. Prof Craddock is one of the leading specialists in researching and treating blooded cancers in the world. He’s the best person Dan could wish to have treating him.

Get involved and get fit and do something good in 2019. We will beat this together for Dan👍🏼👊🏻💪😊 ❤️

Thanks for your time The Zalepa Family.
