Story
Over the the last 4 years I have represented GB at Deaf World and international championships. GB deaf swimming receives no government funding therefore I have to raise money and rely on my parents for the privilege of representing my country. I have achieved major success through Deaf swimming, winning gold at the Deaf World championships in Texas and double gold at the European Championships in Russia in 2014. I currently hold 9 deaf world records set over the last few years. I was also voted Scottish women in sports sportswoman of the year 2015 and Junior Deaf Sports Personality of the year. I have won several local sports awards in north Ayrshire and was honoured to carry the Commonwealth baton through my home town of Stevenston in 2014, I am a UK deaf sports ambassador as well a sports ambassador for NDCS The deaflympics is the second oldest major games after the Olympics itself and receives very little recognition as deafness is an unseen disability. The Deaflympics takes place in Turkey next year and the European championships take place in Poland the following year. I have been chosen to represent team GB at the deaflympics however in order to hopefully compete at these major events I have to train away from home while studying at University which costs thousands of pounds each year for accommodation and training. Without your support it will be impossible to pay for this let alone the cost of around £2500 to attend each of the major events if selected. GB swimmers compete against fully funded countries from Eastern Europe who also receive money for winning. They have full recognition which is what the international Olympic committee believe the deaflympics should have. GB do not do this. Please help me fulfill my dream of winning a Deaflympic medal and even the smallest amount will help me reach my target to allow me to train properly and compete at these events. Thank you, Danii.
