Story
Danny has a condition called Bardet Biedl Syndrome - mutations in BBS 10 Gene. This causes him to have severe learning disabilities, severe obesity + tall stature, delayed motor development and has severe Autism. He is also registered with the RNIB as partial sighted and is double incontinent. Danny has Complex Support Needs and will continue to require input from a range of services in Health, Education and Social Care. He has made tremendous progress in mobility skills in the past year. Danny currently weighs 21 stone and has a mannual wheelchair. The cost of an electric chair is around £8000 & maintenance. Due to his weight it is very difficult to push his mannual chair over long distances as well as the Health and Safety Issues involved with professionals who work with Danny. Because of this he is missing out on a range of activities including swimming, which is his lifeline for freedom of movement, trips with the School and the Playscheme as well as his shopping trips with Mum and Granny to ASDA as he now exceeds the weight that the Trolley Chair can hold. Even his wee trips on the train are proving difficult now as it is hard to push the mannual chair up the ramp. Ross High Additional Special Needs Unit have trialled an electric chair for Danny and it was amazing how well he adjusted and had the freedom of exploring the whole school in such a short time. We are hoping to raise this money as quickly as possbile so that Danny can get out and about. Any donations towards purchasing this chair would be appreciated. People who know Danny have seen him overcome obstacles over the years that we did not think were possible. The difference an electric chair would make to Danny's quality of life is immeasurable.
