    Weʼve raised £100 to expand a social enterprise that creates work opportunities to South Asian youth who has zero job opportunities due to a disability.

    Funded on Sunday, 5th March 2017

    Story

    In South Asia, there are millions of youngsters sitting at home doing nothing and without any hope of a future because they are disabled as a result of a chronic health condition, road traffic injury, natural disaster and other factors. They are often excluded from employment, considered a burden to their families and at a high risk of ending their own lives.

    Engaging in a skilled job where they can work from home, not only gives these youngsters back their self-esteem but also a reason to wake up every day.

    Our goal is to give as many housebound youngsters as we can, an opportunity to make a living, generate a regular income and aspire to a future that they look forward to.

    Your donations will help us to achieve three goals:

    • One of the main obstacles we come across when recruiting is that most of these youngsters can’t afford a broadband line and a PC. We plan to use some the money raised to fund a few PCs and internet connections.
    • Your donations will also be used to top up their monthly income where we fail to generate enough work for a given month to pay a minimum wage.
    • Finally, some of the funds raised will go towards a campaign to raise awareness to find more work and to give opportunities to more and more youngsters with a disability.

    We also have plans to subscribe to online training portals to give the team a chance to learn from home.

    In the photo you see, Edger from Sri Lanka and Nincy from India, working from their homes. They are both wheelchair-bound with spinal cord injuries.

    "Working from home has made life at home more bearable and helped me to be positive about my life."
    Edger

    "All of a sudden I had lot of time in my hands. I didn't know what to do. To do something productive meant a lot to me. The opportunity helped me to boost my confidence and self-esteem."
    Nincy

    ++++

    Every pound you give will help us make this vision a reality and give someone hope.

    Thank you.

      Whilst expecting my second child I started working from home. As I came closer to delivery I had to find backup. The person I found changed the way I looked at the work I was doing and realised that I’m in a unique position to do something different. Datalake.co.uk was born.
