Story
Dave was once an extremely bouncy and active boy who loved chasing balls. Loving people and showing so much love by jumping and cuddling everyone. Then one day he came home from running around with his friends absoulutly puffed out but wanting his chew. i came home a couple of hours later and he was lame. I rushed him to the vets immediately and he was given a pain injection and an appountment for 9am the next morning. Before we made it back to the car he was unable to walk or sit up. We both stayed up all night with him and the following morning took him to his appointment. As soon as our vet saw him he said thats a spinal injury and he needs emergency MRI immediately. He got us an appointment at the Royal Vetinary Collage in Hertfordshire an hors drive away. We drove there as soon as we could. we got there and he was immediately put on a trolly and wheeled away from me. They told us what it could be and worse scenario but would call us with news. We drove home in silence. Shocked devastated. My boy not with us. we then got a phone call telling us he had a ruptured disc and the debris was crushing his spinal cord and paralysing him. They need to operate immediately to give him the best chance. we sat there waiting, clock watching, then the call came two hours later, that they removed a lot of debris and his spinal cord is extremely inflamed. He was just coming round and having some food. since then we have been visiting him at weekends. He did have a set back where they had been feeding the wrong food and made him quite sick. He has daily Hydrotherapy, Physiotherapy and muscle stimulation and although he has minor movement in his hips he is still paralysed and not walking. We hope to bring him home soon but he will need continued therapy for sometime. We are still holding out hope he will gain strength in his legs and walk to some extent. We are trying to stay positive for him, as he is his normal cheeky loving self and pain free, and we love him very much.

7 years agoHello everyone. Been a bit quiet as we have been in between hydrotherapist's. Lovely Alyson unfortunately could not fit Dave in anymore and we would have to rely on cancellations but dave needs definite sessions 2-3 times a week. He was making so much progress with her so we are a little sad but this week he had his first session at Splashpaws and they were great with him. He's had physio with the lovely Michelle and she is so positive it keeps us up and hopeful. We still need your help with his ongoing therapy. We are so thankful to you all x
