Hello, my name is Helen Speirs, I am a 46 year old bi-lateral lower limb amputee, retired nurse. I have very recently lost my second leg due to Cancer and have only just started walking again after months in a wheelchair. I would like to raise money to purchase a racing wheelchair to compete in next years Great North Run in aid of Cancer Connections for the years of helping me and others progress in life. The Great North run will not only help me, but will let others in the same situation try to continue life in the way that others do. Once i have the wheelchair which is costing between £2,000 & £3,000, i can use it to raise money in the future and to go further. My family & friends will be holding charity events and fundraising nights to help towards this cause. Everyone deserves a future, and by things getting in the way that cannot put a hold on ours.
