    Story

THE HEALING - a play by DAVID HERMANSTEIN

    Setting: London
    Time: Now

    THE STORY

A mortician – NELSON – with the ability to see beyond the grave

His estranged twin brother - ALPHONSO – who cannot see beyond himself and drinks himself to near destruction

Their mother – GLORIA – who cannot move beyond the past

MAX – Alphonso's saviour. But is he a healer? A hoax? Or something far more dangerous?

DOMINIQUE - a mysterious teenager. But is she a friend or warning to Nelson?

Set in two worlds, THE HEALING is a story about faith, choice and redemption.

When people ask me to describe THE HEALING, I say it's "EastEnders meets voodoo", a contemporary family drama that also mixes elements of African-Caribbean myth and traditional folklore, the result being a refreshing mix of kitchen sink and fantasy that raises questions of identity and mortality.

The HEALING doesn't tick any boxes. It isn't your gritty, urban and youth-orientated play. It refuses to simplify and avoids stereotyping at all costs, all the more important in this climate that cries out for more diverse and multi-layered representation.

If the play has a cause, then this is it.

Having been nominated for the Alfred Fagon Award with a successful public reading at Diorama Arts Studios in 2015 behind it and a highly experienced director and cast fully committed, I feel THE HEALING is finally ready to be seen by the world.

The plan is for THE HEALING to be performed for a week. £8,000 is needed not only to fund the cast and director during both rehearsal and performances but to also hire a production team to ensure the play fulfils its' excellent potential.

A British play like this hasn't been staged. Be part of this one-off experience.

Your donations - no matter how small - will be greatly appreciated.

    THANK YOU DEARLY IN ADVANCE.
