We are raising funds to provide toilets and showers for a shelter giving aid to homeless elderly people in Sendamangalam, Tamil Nadu, India. These are low cast people who have no means of support other than an open lean-to and very basic food provided by the local Baptist church. There are no washing or toilet facilities other than in the surrounding scrubland.
Many schools, hospitals and churches were established in this part of Tamil Nadu by my grandfather, starting in 1904. He was a leading missionary working with the Strict Baptist Mission and spent 38 years, until his death, working for the local community. My wife and I visited various of these schools and churches in November 2016 and were impressed by scale and quality. However, the depth of poverty locally brought us to the conclusion that we needed to do something.
So here we are, if we get this one right - who knows !
