In March this year I was given the news that I had a growth in my bowel, it was possibly cancerous and it needed to come out. I decided that no matter what the diagnosis I wasn't going to let it get the better of me. I wasn't going to let it scare me. As the nurses at Treliske Hospital in Truro, Cornwall said to me, we just needed to "get it in a bucket" and deal with. And that's what we did.

In April I had an operation to remove just over a third of my bowel, taking the tumour, which was confirmed as cancer, and the surrounding area and thankfully the surgery was a success. I had a top surgeon, thanks Mr May, and the care I received whilst in hospital was fantastic. I will need to have a course of chemotherapy as a precaution, starting in a few weeks but I have always been positive. And whilst I am having my treatment I would love to be able to raise a lot of money for charities and local projects along the way.
