Weʼve raised £790 to help towards the cost of adapting the family home following David's diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease.

    Story

David Gardiner was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in August 2016. David is married to Tracey and they have three children, Aimee, Jak & Aaron.

We initially set up a fundraising page to help towards the cost of a fantastic family holiday for the family to create everlasting memories - this was achieved and they had an amazing holiday to Florida in October 2016.

The time has now come for the family home to be adapted in preparation for David's mobility issues. The house needs to be adapted to make it wheelchair accessible and the installation of a wet room is also going to be required. It would be fantastic if we could raise some funds to go towards the mounting costs of these adaptations. Whilst the local council help towards some of these costs, they only provide a proportion of funding towards the installation of a wetroom. They provide no help towards converting the house to create a bedroom downstairs which of course David will need so desperately.

Motor Neurone Disease is a rare condition that progressively damages parts of the nervous system. This leads to muscle weakness, often with visible wasting.

Motor Neurone Disease occurs when specialist nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord called motor neurones stop working properly. This is known as neurodegeneration.

Motor neurones control important muscle activity, such as:

    gripping
    walking
    speaking
    swallowing
    breathing
