On Saturday 29th July 2017, myself and several others will be participating in climbing Ben Nevis. The reason for doing this is to help my friends daughter Megan who is 14 years old and has the short lifespan illness cystic fibrosis. There is currently no cure for this therefore we are trying to raise as much money as possible. All money raised will go towards a special airflow machine that will help to open up Megan's airwaves and help increase her lung function. As it stands just now Megan goes to hospital every second day to use this machine. Unfortunately Megan's parents have now been told Megan is becoming more dependent on this machine, which would mean her having to go to hospital daily to use the machine. Therefore Megan's family looked into getting a home kit machine which are currently not on the market in the UK but France make them so the Physio has been given the rubber stamp approval to use these kits in the UK. They are expensive (in the region of costing £30,000 between both machines) but effective so they are at a point they are working towards getting the machines and making Megan's life that bit more easier.

What is CF?

Cystic fibrosis is a genetic condition affecting more than 10,800 people in thethe UK. You are born with CF and cannot catch it later in life, but one in 25 of us carry the faulty gene that causes it, usually without even knowing it. The gene affected by CF controls the movement of salt and water in and out the cells. People with CF experience build up of sticky thick mucus in the lungs, digestive system and other organs, causing a wide range if challenging symptoms affecting the entire body.
