As of September 14th I will be embarking on probably one of the most terrifying yet exciting adventures I have ever taken part in. Leaving the comforts of every day life in exchange for the rural island of Fiji. Introducing me to the Fijian villages which are devoid of the most basic resources. As a volunteer I will be immersing myself into the education system, youth and sporting activities, participating in programs to provide children with better educational and sporting opportunities.

Think Pacific is a charitable organisation which works with local communities and partners to provide the funding, planning and logistical support to achieve sustainable solutions to poverty issues and conservation objectives. Providing fresh water to remote communities, facilitating kindergarten and primary school education, promoting young enterprise and initiating sports development for children.

Schools in Fiji, particularly those in rural areas are understaffed and severely lacking in basic materials. Poverty forces many children to drop out of education early and children are forced into a future of limited education and opportunity. Through the volunteer work which I will be participating in I will work in some of the poorest rural primary schools and kindergartens in Fiji. Providing one-to-one support to children and supporting Fijian teachers in basic literacy and math lessons. Encouraging and introducing children to participate in activities which they may not have had the opportunity to do previously. These include debates, poster presentations, class discussions, reading schemes, library clubs, young enterprise competitions and fun games and activities.

The funds that I raise will help me to get out to Fiji and make a difference, as well as directly providing essential schooling and sporting resources. No donation is too small and I immensely and sincerely appreciate any support.
