    Story

On 4 March 2018 Team DeptfordFolk are running 'The Big Half'. Our 11 runners are aiming to raise £3300 (£300 each) to plant and maintain 11 trees in one of the most deprived areas in London, where many children have little choice but to walk along heavily polluted routes to get to school. The Big Half goes straight through Deptford, along a main road normally clogged with traffic and fumes.

DeptfordFolk is an award-winning park user group based in north Deptford, an area with 43.3% child poverty (Jan 2018 figures). DeptfordFolk's priority is to make sure local parks are cared for and enjoyed by all residents. This part of Lewisham has the fewest trees and worst air quality in the borough. To start to tackle both of these issues DeptfordFolk has launched a project to plant 200 trees across the local area over the next year.

It's time to act now', say researchers who found pollution at six times world safety limit in Deptford and New Cross - Evening Standard, 14 Nov '17

The project is called Evelyn200 after one-time local resident, John Evelyn, who wrote about trees, air quality and urban planning in his diaries. His former home at Sayes Court Park in Deptford is considered the birth place of the National Trust. Most of Evelyn's gardens have long since been paved over but this resident-led project will help bring more trees to Deptford for current and future generations to enjoy.

Team DeptfordFolk are Georgia Smith, Sandra Perez, Sean Gair, Emily Oaks, Alex Lynch, Adam Towle, Sebastian Barber, Philip McCullough, James Ransom, Richard Phillips & Alys Exley-Smith

Please donate and support DeptfordFolk's Evelyn200 project - planting 200 trees in Deptford in 2018! **Please feel free to indicate which runner(s) you are supporting through the comment box when you make a donation**
