I am hoping to raise money to put towards a new engine for our unit safety boat. This will enable the cadets to get out on the water, have fun and use the skills they have learned. Our Humber Rib is not only used for training the cadets, it is also used as a safety vessel for when they are out doing rowing, sailing or kayaking.
Myself and Alan Bartrop (a Petty Officer at the unit) have planned to climb aboard a Canadian Canoe each and paddle up river from Doncaster to Keadby (Scunthorpe Sea Cadets boat station) and back again.
We will be setting off on our adventure on Thursday 18th May 2017 towards Thorne and then onto Keadby. We will be camping throughout the trip at Thorne Sea cadets boating station and Keadby boat station before returning back to the unit and finishing our challenge on Sunday 21st May 2017.
The distance for the full challenge we will have to paddle is a 40 mile round trip.
We have already started to train for this event and so far so good, although we are finding we have muscles in our arms that we didn't think we had!
