Story
UPDATE: My brother, Michael Davies, has set off on an EPIC circa 450 mile challenge to cycle from Land’s End to London along the south coast of England to raise money for the Big Cat Sanctury through this tree of life memorial for our mother Doreen Davies, who sadly passed away last year from cancer. His girlfriend Lara Bates will join him for 4 days before Michael cycles the remaining circa 5-6+ days (however long it takes) alone.
They will be camping as much as possible and will be carrying all their gear on their bikes. Michael has dodgy knees and could barely walk for more than 5 minutes 5 years ago without excruciating pain. Cycling was one of the main factors that helped in his rehabilitation, but even though he can walk more freely, he still suffers even to this day. He has only cycled around 60 miles in one go before, so I hope you agree this is a challenge of monumental proportions for him and a worthy cause to donate to.

:In 2017 with great sadness Doreen Davies passed away a few days after her 70th birthday from a short but aggressive battle with cancer. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, she was as passionate about her family and friends as she was about animals particularly cats (many will remember her Kitten Kronicles from Facebook!)
She was also an active support of the The Big Cat Sanctuary, based locally to her in Smarden, Kent (many of you might have recently seen the Cats About the House BBC documentary).
The Big Cat Sanctuary is set in the heart of the countryside at Smarden, in Kent. The peace and tranquility of the site provides a sanctuary and excellent conditions for the successful breeding of the beautiful, yet endangered cats both large and small within the European Endangered Species Breeding Programme.
The Sanctuary is building a new Jaguar enclosure to home Maya, their new baby jaguar (not so little anymore). To support this we are building a tree of life which will be placed in the enclosure as an official memorial to Doreen. All money raised will go towards the building of the enclosure and each year we have also committed to raising further funds support the maintenance of the enclosure.
There will also be a tree planted and plaque placed outside of the enclosure and every year we will arrange for a friends and family day at the Sanctuary, so we can pay our respects to Doreen and enjoy the Sanctuary and see the cats.
I hope you all agree this is a amazing way to remember Doreen and something she would so proud of us for doing.
Big or small every penny counts in securing the future of these beautiful endangered animals.
