Story
Continuous storms from December 2021 and beginning of 2022 have completely destroyed "Sticks and Stones" Therapeutic Forest School, which have been supporting many children, schools and families from wide local area for the last 5 years. Participants travelled from as far as Carnoustie, Forfar, Inverurie as well as closer afield from Brechin, Fettercairn, Laurencekirk and many more. The Forest School provides nurturing, non-judgemental environment and vital specialist support, with clinical psychologist and other professionals on site, for those who struggle in mainstream education, children with additional support needs and trauma, adoptive families, home schooling groups and public in general. They were a safe haven for a vital woodland community of nature-loving children and adults. "Sticks and Stones" were operating throughout the year, rain or shine, teaching woodwork, bushcraft, wildlife facts and ID, foraging, tool and survival skills, including making fire and cooking food and lots more. The site was sometimes hired for outdoor birthday parties. The storms abruptly put it to an end, however the staff and volunteers have been working tirelessly to clear the damage in the forest and bring the place back to safe and usable conditions and reopen it to a collective of practitioners for a wide range of services, activities and events.
They need to rebuild a robust shelter over the fire pit and put their volunteers through a chainsaw certification. They would also appreciate a yurt as an additional shelter from wet and cold.
Please donate generously to allow quick recovery for this unique, valuable and much needed natural space. Sharing this cause as well as volunteering or donating woodworking tools, materials and equipment will also be a massive help.
On Friday and Saturday 22nd-23rd of April for the World Earth Day I will be doing a litter pick in Laurencekirk town and surrounding area. This is my contribution to this fundraiser. Anyone's welcome to join in. Details and updates can be found on the even't FB page here

2 years agoBrilliant work, new structures put up for a temporary shelter over the fire pit area. Two tripods with a beam across to pull a big tarpaulin sheet over. Lots of space and scope to extend it.

2 years agoOur group of volunteers is working hard every week to clear up the area and build simple structures to at least temporarily replace the previous, more robust ones. We are keen to reopen the woods as soon as possible and need more volunteers who can offer their time and bush craft skills. Donating woodworking tools, materials and equipment will also be a massive help, as well as money donations towards purchasing a new bell tent/yurt to provide additional shelter from wet and cold. https://youtube.com/shorts/4HL_4GycDHA
